An ATS or Assistant Troop Scouter is a uniformed adult member of the troop who, as the name suggests, assists the troop scouter in his tasks. More than that the ATS is usually or ideally, as the case may be, a young adult (18-30-ish) or at least one with a youthful diposition who can still relate to the boys and is willing and able to organise exciting activities, thus increasing interest in the troop. An ATS is energetic and outgoing, interested in whatever's current and exciting - both physically and mentally. An ATS contributes hugely to what makes a troop enjoyable and adventurous. General ATS type tasks: ¤ Organise some activities for meetings ¤ Organise camps ¤ Assist with activities and camps ¤ Assist with transport ¤ Be a friend and provide guidance to the older scouts [Note the troop is based in Morehill Benoni so you would need to be able to be there between 19:00 and 21:30 on a friday and be available for camps on some weekends. Commitment is a major part of the job - but not like marriage commitment, so don't be scared] If you are interested in becoming an ATS for the awesomest troop on earth then please e-mail your details to barry.neuwerth@gmail.com
Based on my experience, working with my scouts, I would have to say that being a part of scouting is one of the most(if not the most) rewarding experiences of my life. |
