Cubbing is fun, cubbing
is an adventure, it’s exploring and a discovery. It’s an
activity designed for boys and girls aged from 7 ½ to 11years.
As a parent of a
young child it will be important to you to know what cubs can do for
your child.
The aim of the SA Scouting Association is to contribute to the development
of young boys and girls by developing their character, training them
in citizenship and developing their personal fitness by promoting their
spiritual, mental and physical qualities, so that they grow and take
a constructive part in the community.
This is done by providing stimulating programs which includes making
a personal commitment to a simple code
of living, participating in activities based on the interest of
the young person, and to develop leadership, by working in small groups
to develop skills and individual responsibilities. We achieve this by
providing a fun evening of games and challenges which all children enjoy.
Most young children know the story of the Jungle Book, of Mowgli the
Man Cub and his life in the Jungle. This is our starting point, as Mowgli
learns the rule of the Jungle so our Cubs learn the rules of life through
games and make believe. We produce a varied program which is rewarded
by a progressive badge system for achievements gained and knowledge
learnt over a period of four years. This culminates in the Leaping Wolf
badge at 11yrs, which is the cubbing equilivant of the Scouting Springbok
or Top Award. At this stage they are ready for bigger challenges in
Scouts.
If you have any further questions, or you think your child would like
to join us then come along to a meeting or contact
the Pack Scouter for further information.
